What is an HSA or FSA?
HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) are special accounts that let you use pre-tax dollars (read: ~30% discount) to pay for eligible medical expenses.
These accounts are often run by your insurance company or a partner company (sometimes called the “benefits” or “HSA/FSA” department).
You don’t pay us through your insurance; instead, you use your HSA/FSA card at checkout, or submit your receipt to your HSA/FSA for reimbursement.
What we provide (so you can get tax savings)
Itemized receipts for services you received, with CPT codes and service dates
Service descriptions (what was done and why)
Letter of Medical Necessity if your plan asks for one
Help completing plan forms, when requested
What your insurance may still cover directly
Even though we don’t bill insurance for our clinical time, you can usually still use insurance at in-network locations for:
Labs
Imaging
Prescriptions
Specialist visits (with referrals)
Medications and vaccines
We’ll help you choose in-network options when possible.
Step-by-step: How to use your HSA/FSA here
Call your plan’s HSA/FSA number (often on the back of your insurance card; ask for the “HSA” or “FSA” department).
Ask what they need to reimburse you for preventive care you received with an out-of-network, direct-pay practice.
Tell us what they require. We’ll generate the right documents (receipt with CPT codes, dates, and any medical-necessity letter).
Submit your documents to your HSA/FSA (portal upload or email, depending on their process).
Track reimbursement (your HSA/FSA will send funds to you, or pay the card on file if that’s how your plan works).
Common questions we hear
Is my HSA/FSA the same as my insurance?
They’re related but not the same. Your insurance pays in-network providers directly. Your HSA/FSA is a separate benefit that reimburses you when you submit eligible expenses with documentation.
Can I use HSA/FSA for the cost of my ongoing care with you?
Many patients do receive reimbursement for preventive care services at our practice. Because eligibility rules vary, please confirm with your HSA/FSA which services and documentation they accept. We will supply the paperwork they require.
What if I’m on a fixed income and need a physical?
We can plan a comprehensive annual preventive visit (history, labs, and an actionable prevention plan). If you have it, use your HSA/FSA what they reimburse for that visit type; we’ll make sure your receipt is set.
Who exactly do I call?
If you need to verify your plan, call the number on your insurance card and ask for the HSA or FSA benefit (sometimes “benefits card,” “reimbursement card,” or the name of a partner company like HealthEquity, Optum, WageWorks, WEX, etc.).
How do I get the itemized receipt for HSA submission?
Log into our billing platform for your HSA/FSA-friendly receipt.
What if I don’t have an HSA or FSA?
You can still work with us as a direct-pay practice. We’ll help you use insurance for labs, imaging, prescriptions, and specialist referrals when possible.
What to have ready when you call your HSA/FSA
Use your card at checkout
That's it - your HSA card may have has an investment account and a 'cash' account. You'll want to make sure the balance is in your cash account to use it.
How to request documents from us
Send us a message letting us know what your HSA/FSA requires.
We’ll provide an itemized, reimbursement-ready receipt (and a letter of medical necessity if needed).
We’re here to help. If any step feels confusing, message us and we’ll guide you through it so you can use your benefits fully and focus on your health—not the paperwork.
