What does “trauma-informed” and “judgment-free” care mean?

We meet you where you are — with care that’s respectful, safe, and never shaming. Here’s what that means in practice.

At Fishtown Medicine, we believe that the way care is delivered matters as much as the care itself.

That’s why we practice trauma-informed, judgment-free medicine. This means we create space for honest conversation without shame, blame, or assumptions.

What is trauma-informed care?

Trauma-informed care means we:

  • Understand how past experiences can shape health and behavior

  • Prioritize safety, trust, and empowerment in every interaction

  • Avoid triggering language or blame

  • Ask before we assume, and offer options instead of commands

You don’t have to explain or justify your history to receive respectful, collaborative care.

What does “judgment-free zone” really mean?

It means we meet you exactly where you are — with curiosity, not criticism.
Whether you’re navigating:

  • Substance use

  • Diabetes or blood sugar concerns

  • Weight changes

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Gut issues

  • Cardiovascular risk

  • A history of medical trauma or dismissal

…you’ll be treated with compassion, clarity, and respect.

We focus on forward movement — not blame. That means:

  • Actionable steps tailored to your body and life

  • Language that supports you, not pressures you

  • A plan that builds momentum, not shame

Let us know if something feels hard to talk about. We’re here to make it easier — and help you move toward better health on your own terms.
